Intern – Meat Metabolomics

New Age Meats is a fast-growing Berkeley startup developing cultivated meat. We create delicious meat made without animal slaughter – healthier for humans, animals, and the planet.

This position will focus on gaining a molecular understanding of food flavor. This involves sample preparation, separation/analysis of compounds, and data interpretation.

QUALIFICATIONS: 2 years of college or university study, majoring in chemistry, chemical engineering, food science, or similar field.

DURATION: 6 months, with a performance review after 4 months, in Biological Research Department


  • Familiarity with GC-MS and HPLC, hands on experience preferred.
  • Experience performing sample preparation and storage, including distillation, separation, dilution, and freeze-drying.
  • Experience working in an academic or industrial laboratory.
  • Strong knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments/ tasks.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) and attention to detail.
  • Comfort with a fast-paced start-up environment.



  • Equipment start-up/calibrations/maintenance, package shipping and receiving, lab glassware sanitation.
  • Prepare samples for chromatographic analyses, run GC and LC samples, and process the analytical data.
  • Present research findings to internal researchers
  • Conduct an independent research project
  • Keeping a detailed record in electronic lab notebook
