We are looking for an experienced and ambitious R&D Senior Food Process Engineer to join our vibrant team and grow with us and work efficiently to become a seasoned professional in this field. The R&D Senior Food Process Engineer will report to the R&D Food Process Manager; and collaborates with research and manufacturing divisions of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the process development and process capability assessment to ensure product design aligns with process capability. Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Identify, develop, and evaluate methods and process technologies from bench to pilot scale to ensure effective and efficient process capabilities.
  • Collaborate with other R&D groups (and Manufacturing when needed) to develop process and equipment specifications for existing and new equipment or production lines including any improvement and/or changes. Solicit, evaluate, and select external vendors and other service providers.
  • Develop, present, and communicate preliminary capital proposals of new processing technology, equipment, or cost reduction opportunities including determination of ROI and other benefits, process or equipment specifications, and estimated capital investment and production capacity and attainment.
  • Document all work according to established procedures and guidelines and prepare various project reports.
  • Assist with development of training programs for operations personnel in executing and operating new processes and processing equipment in the areas of operation maintenance and sanitation.

 

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • A B.S. degree in Food Process Engineering or Manufacturing, Chemical, Biological Engineering, or other related fields; advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum 6-8 years of direct experience in food product development, especially experience with animal- and plant-based industry highly desired. Pilot-scale plant operations experience required.
  • Ability to understand root causes of problems and develop solutions is critical to success. Fact-based reasoning and recommendation is essential. Incorporates a high level of technical knowledge & expertise into decision making.
  • Ability to adapt to working both in collaborative team environment and alone.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in R&D product development flow from concept to product launch, especially to achieve performance, quality, and safety targets, deployed within regulatory and industry best practice frameworks such as USDA, FDA, GFSI, etc.
  • Strong in statistical analysis and Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Ability to develop and execute Commissioning, Qualification, Verification, and Validation protocols.
  • Ability to develop BFD, PFD, P&ID, etc; perform mass balance, etc; perform time studies to optimize cycle time, makespan, etc; perform pay-back calculations and write preliminary capital proposals.
  • Experience with ASABE, NIST, ASTM, AOAC methods.
  • Experience with popular brands of industrial food process equipment, analytical instruments, in-line sensors, and PLC automation and control.
  • Experience with coordinating 3rd party collaborations, services, etc
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and days as needed.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lb occasionally.
  • Ability to use a forklift a plus.
